While much of the world suffered either negative growth or a significant decline in exports of marble to the United States, India experienced over 100% growth in its exports of worked marble! In September of 2014, the United States imported roughly 1,400 metric tons of worked marble from India.  During that same period this year, India sent over 2,800 metric tons of marble material to the U.S.A.

This increasing prominence of Indian natural stone as a valuable international commodity is bolstered in part by a weakened Brazilian economy and a rare period of negative growth for Chinese marble exports. While Italy stole the top spot from Turkey, India’s strong performance is more than just a fluke.  Keep an eye on out for more materials coming from the subcontinent, and keep in touch with Siman Stones to stay ahead of the game!
